Is Transport Europe's biggest climate change problem?
Transport & Environment whose mission is to promote, at EU and global level, a transport policy based on the principles of sustainable development have published a very useful guide to emissions and the challenge of climate change.
"26% of the EU’s total greenhouse gas emissions, according to the UNFCCC.
But 2017 will present major opportunities to change this."
is a key statement from the report.
With recent announcements from France, the country aims to end sales of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2040 there appears to be growing momentum to tackle climate change.
Germany is supposedly looking to do this earlier by 2030, Netherlands are looking to do the same by 2025.
Could this be the signal for manufacturers that the policy makers are serious about pollution. Are they prepared to take the necessary steps and start legislating for change.
Will they be willing to do this if this could risk their own automtive inudtries and put them at a commercial disadvantage. France and Germany for example. Who knows, but recent announcements suggest that the movement is gathering pace so lets watch this space.
Could the UK be looking into this, lets wait and see.
